LOCAL AI INTERACTIVE FICTION · MACOS + WINDOWS
FPV is a free, open-source desktop app for interactive stories with local AI. You decide what you do, say, or change. The narrator continues — and characters, places, goals and consequences persist.
I leave the silver key with Mara.
Mara does not reach for it yet. She watches the key in your palm, and the departure board above the platform wakes for the first time in years.

LOCAL ONLY / your action becomes the next scene
You are not watching the story. You are inside it.
02 / THREE WAYS
No dialogue wheel, no menu of approved answers. Every line is free text — the story has to live with what you write.
The station has been empty for nineteen years. Tonight, every light is on. At the far end of platform three, a woman in a red coat turns as if she has been waiting for you.
YOU · DOI take the key before he notices.
She does not answer. Instead, the departure board clicks above you, one letter at a time, until it spells your name.

SAY
Speak directly, in your own voice. “You knew I would come back.”
STORY
Change the scene itself. The lights fail before either of us can move.
03 / THE WORLD REMEMBERS
Story State, Codex and memory carry the story between turns — and between sessions.
At scene seven you give the silver key to Mara — a small choice, one line long.
Three scenes later she is still holding it. The story never has to ask whether you remember. It already knows.
SCENE 07 → 10 · TWENTY TURNS APART
04 / THE FORK
Checkpoints save a turning point. Forks let you come back to it and walk a different line — without losing the story you already made.
05 / LOCAL BY DEFAULT
Your words, the narrator and the project itself live on your computer. The private path is the architecture, not an option you have to find.
Cloud narrators exist, but they never run by default. You connect your own key and allow it per story — and the story still lives locally.
Your imagination does not need permission from a server. How local-first works
06 / LOCAL IMAGERY
Scene illustrations, covers and Visualize runs are produced by a local image pipeline. The prompt and the picture never leave your machine.

08 / BEFORE YOU ENTER
What local-first means in practice.
Local narration and story storage are designed to run on your computer after the required model and runtime are available. Initial setup, model downloads, updates, GitHub access and optional cloud providers require connectivity.
In a Local only story, FPV processes and stores the story locally. If you explicitly choose Cloud allowed and configure your own provider key, the required context is sent to that provider.
Yes. Cloud models are optional, use your own provider key and are available only when you allow cloud narration for that story.
FPV desktop software has no FPV subscription or credit system. Your computer, electricity and any optional third-party API usage are outside FPV.
Yes. FPV supports .fpv-project import and export. Machine-specific settings, provider keys and models are kept separate from the project.
