02 / THE GUIDE

From download
to first scene.

A short path from a fresh install to the moment the story answers you back.

THE FIRST SESSION

Five steps into
the room.

Nothing here requires you to be a writer. Bring a premise, a question or a person you want to become.

01

STEP 01

Install FPV

Download the build for macOS or Windows, open it and let FPV finish its first-run setup.

  • Choose the build for your platform
  • Allow the app to finish its local runtime setup
  • Keep the app and model storage on a drive with room to grow
TIP

Start with the platform card on the download page. Release links appear when signed artifacts are verified.

02

STEP 02

Get a local model

FPV uses Ollama to run a narrator on your computer. The model is the voice and reasoning behind the next scene.

  • Install Ollama from ollama.com
  • Download a model your machine can run
  • Return to FPV and select the model in provider settings
TIP

A smaller model is a good first test. Larger models need more RAM and disk space.

03

STEP 03

Start a story

Create a new story, choose its starting shape and give the narrator enough context to make the first scene specific.

  • Create or open a story
  • Add the world, characters or premise you want
  • Choose Local only if you want the private path
TIP

You do not need a finished world bible. Give the story one clear situation and let it open from there.

04

STEP 04

Type your first move

There is no dialogue wheel to exhaust. Write an action, dialogue or direction and FPV turns it into the next moment.

  • DO something: take the key
  • SAY something: call her name
  • STORY something: change what the scene is about
TIP

Be as direct or strange as you like. Your words are the input, not a menu of approved answers.

05

STEP 05

Save and export

The story grows in its local archive. Export a complete project when you want a backup, a move or a copy you can inspect.

  • Keep playing and let Story State and Codex carry continuity
  • Export the project as a .fpv-project file
  • Back it up or move it to another supported installation
TIP

A project export keeps the story together. Machine-specific provider keys and models remain separate.

OPTIONAL PATH

Cloud models,
when you choose.

FPV can use a cloud provider when you connect your own key and explicitly set the story to Cloud allowed.

Privacy mode is per story Local storage still remains local BYOK, not an FPV account
