Most AI stories have amnesia. They remember the last few thousand words and guess at the rest. FPV stores the story in layers, so that what matters does not depend on whether it happened this turn or thirty turns ago.
Recent story
The raw narrative — your actions, the narrator's responses — is the source of truth. It is always there, in order, nothing paraphrased away.
Story State
The structured layer: locations, goals, open threads, inventory, relationships, facts. When the narrator says “you left the key with Mara”, that fact is recorded as a change the world can act on later — not a sentence that will scroll out of context.
Codex and canon
The Codex is the world's long-term knowledge: people, places, rules. Pinned canon is the handful of facts you refuse to let the story forget. Together they keep a hundred-scene story coherent.
The archive is ownership
All of it exports to a single .fpv-project file. That is the real point of the archive: the story is a thing you own and can move, not a session that evaporates when a service changes.
